According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ukraine № 55 of 27.01.2010 “About harmonization of transliteration of the Ukrainian alphabet by Latin”, new rules of transliteration have been adopted. According to the accepted decision, Ukrainian letter “Аа” is presented by Latin “Aa”, “Бб” – “Bb”, etc.
The combination of letters “зг” is presented by Latin as “zgh” (Розгін - Rozghin), unlike "zh", that is equal to the Ukrainian letter “ж”. A letter «щ» according to the new rules is presented as "shch". For example Щербухи - Shcherbukhy, Гоща - Hoshcha, Гаращенко - Harashchenko.
The presentation of vowels "є", "ї", "й", "ю" та "я" are depended from their position in the word.
In the beginning of the word "є", "ї", "й", "ю" та "я" are presented by Ye", "Yi", "Y", "Yu" та "Ya". In all other positions will be the next transliteration: є" - "ie", "ї" - "i", "й" - "i", "ю" - "iu", "я" - "ia".
A soft sign (“ь”) and an apostrophe (') are not presented by Latin.
Transliteration of surnames, people’s names and places names is performed by means of each letter in Roman alphabet.
